Playing his college hockey as a member of the St. Cloud State University Huskies at the NCAA Division II level, Steve Martinson, having not been drafted, would go on to an NHL career that saw him play in 49 games split between the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens and Minnesota North Stars. Enjoying a successful coaching career after retirement, offered here is this Canadiens jersey worn by Martinson during the 1989-90 season. Made by CCM and featuring a single Maska Ultrafil tag affixed to the inner collar that displays a handwritten size “52” designation, both the CCM and NHL shield logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with the famed “CH” crest of Les Canadiens, the sleeves and verso have had Martinson’s number “8” sewn to them in dual layer blue-over-red tackle twill numerals while “Martinson” is spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Exhibiting light game-use, a few stick marks are scattered throughout the front, reverse and both sleeves while heavy staining is present throughout the jersey as well. Still sporting the fight strap on the interior, an LOA will accompany the piece.
