Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Featuring the Western Canadian 5-time Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers, offered here is this collection of game-used and game-issued Oilers sticks that totals sixteen (16) and hails from the decade of the 1990s with many having been signed by their original wielders. Featuring a mix of manufactures such as Koho, Easton, Vic, Bauer, Sher-Wood, Nike and Louisville, many of the sticks still showcase their original tape over the handles/knobs and blades with only two out of the group remaining bare of void of any cloth coverings. Paced by an early-1990s Jari Kurri Koho game-model stick that has been signed by the Finnish born Hockey Hall of Famer, the tape job differs from what is usually seen on the Kurri sticks we have handled in the past and is simply been offered as a signed game model specimen. With most of the included lumber displaying either stamped or handwritten identifiers at the top of the shafts, players represented in the lot included Kurri (signed in black ink and dated 2001 with the signature displaying well), Doug Weight (dual signed, one on each side with one of the two appearing lighter than the other), Bill Guerin (x2 – both game-issued and signed over the blades with the autographs showing lightness from age), Roman Hamerlik (signed on the lower shaft in black ink with the autograph displaying well), Janne Niinimaa (x2 – both signed over the blade with the signatures showing some lightness), Unknown (signed over the blade tape by Joe Murphy, Adam Graves and Martin Gelinas with the signatures showing some lightness from age), Mats Lindgren (x2 – both signed over the blade tape and displaying well despite light aging), Jeff Norton (x2 – signed over the blade tape on one and the heel on the other, both autographs display well), Boris Mironov (x2 – both signed over the blades and displaying well), Jason Arnott (signed in gold ink on the blade and displaying well) and Fred Brathwaite (signed on handle and displays well – crack/break near the heel – custom artwork over blade tape and paddle on forehand side). Of note, all the sticks show signs of game-use via marks/abrasions throughout with the two game-issued Guerin’s showing handling wear. All appear overall structurally sound and free from major flaws unless noted above. Please note that due to the size and weight of the collection, special shipping arrangements may be required.
