A 15-year Major League veteran that spent his entire career in the Bay Area with both the Oakland A’s and San Francisco Giants, Barry Zito would be named an all-star on three occasions including in 2002 when he led the American League in saves and won the AL Cy Young Award. A two-time World Series with the Giants in 2010 and 2012, offered here is this jersey worn by Zito around his rookie era of 2000-01. Made by Rawlings, a brand/MLB Authentic Collection jock tag is sewn inside the front left tail along with size “48” and “Set 1 2000” designations while a Rawlings logo is embroidered into the left sleeve. Decorated over the front with “Athletics” in dual layer green-over-gold script across the chest with Velcro sewn inside the placket, Zito’s number “75” appears in matching style over the front and verso with “Zito” also spelt out in matching style across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. A jersey that sports both 2000 and 2001 season elements, the “Century of A’s Baseball” patch worn by the club in 2000 has been added over the left sleeve while the American flag patch added to the back of the neck after 9/11 in 2001 is also present. Of note, Zito wore number “53” in 2000 before changing to “75” in 2001, with the ghosting outlines of the number change visible on both the front and reverse, something that was done by the team before it was offered for sale. The outline of the MLB logo that once graced the back of the collar can also be seen. Remaining in excellent condition, the jersey exhibits game wear via some rubbing/pilling to both sleeves, light marks over the body and fraying on the interior. Signed by Zito on the reverse with a black marker ink signature that displays with fading, both Oakland A’s and Newport Sports Museum LOA’s will accompany the piece.
