This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Always a favourite in the hobby, three complete sets of the highly desirable Shirriff hockey coins from the years 1960-61, 1961-62 and 1962-63 are up for grabs here. Starting with the 1960-61 assembly, complete at 120 total coins and picturing players from all six (6) of the Original Six franchises, has had each coin inserted into a small cardboard holder and then inserted into twenty (20) coin binder pages. Remaining in a family uniform condition range of EX to EX-MT with some better examples and condition exceptions seen throughout, key coins of players like Bower, Horton, Armstrong, Mahovlich, Plante, Geoffrion, Beliveau, Richard, Sawchuk, Howe, Hall, Hull, Mikita, Bathgate and Bucyk all falling into this grade range or better while light toning is the biggest flaw on most except for the Mikita, which shows a light scratch near the 2 o'clock part of the image.
For the 1961-62 set, once again featuring a total of 120 coins picturing players from all six (6) original six teams, each coin is once again housed in small cardboard holder and inserted in chronological order into plastic 20-coin binder pages. Around the condition neighbourhood of VG to VG-EX with toning the main problem affecting each coins condition as well as some light edge wear to the paper images, a few also show a couple of very small spotting marks as well while there Rangers coins show some that have faded over time. All of the key coins picturing the players listed above all into this uniform condition range with the Gordie Howe example displaying with light edge wear and some warping while Norm Ullman and Dick Meissner are condition exceptions in the set.
Finally, for the 1962-63 release, a smaller set with only sixty (60) coins picturing players from Toronto and Montreal as well as NHL all-stars and award winners, each is made out of metal instead of plastic with the set included here mostly in beautiful condition throughout, including the key players listed above, and displaying in the condition range of EX-MT or better with the all-star and award winner examples displaying light wear via small chips and reverse wear that makes them slight condition exceptions. All once again housed in cardboard holders and placed in binder pages, don't miss out on this trio of complete food premium offerings from hockey's golden era!
