A strong rookie card roster and a nifty design has long made Topps’ 1965-66 puck effort popular among collectors. Sporting a checklist that included 128-cards for youngsters to chase in packs, offered here is this partial set that includes 71 of the 128 cards. Paced by KSA graded offerings of cards #31, the key rookie card of Gerry Cheevers, as well as #79 of Tim Horton, both have earned marks of NMM+ 8.5 for their efforts with their holders remaining in excellent condition with just light scratches worth noting for accuracy. Not including the key rookie cards of 21-Giacomin, 51-Henderson, 64-D. Hull, 76-Cournoyer and 116-P. Esposito, the group also does not include the notable cards of 2-Worsley, 17-Keon, 59-B. Hull, 66-checklist 1, 71-Richard, 81-Mahovlich, 108-Howe, 122-Howe and 128-Bruins. For the cards that are included, the group is found to be in an overall condition range of EX to EX-MT with notables of 91-Gilbert and 101-Bucyk in the vicinity of EX-MT to NM, 125-Red Wings and 126-Canadiens around EX-MT and 12-Sawchuk, 47-Delvecchio (light wax residue), 60-Mikita , 123-Maple Leafs (light corner wear) and 124-Black Hawks (light corner wear) in the scope of EX to EX-MT. For the rest of the notables, card #6 of Jean Believeau is perceived as being in the neighbourhood of VG-EX to EX with centering issues and black coloured print marks while the lead off card of Habs coach, Toe Blake, and #127, the Rangers team card, are in the vicinity of VG to VG-EX with the Blake showing corner wear and the Rangers displaying with a tiny left border crease as well as top border and surface wear.
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
