Nicknamed "The Shawville Express", Frank Finnigan starred for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators during the golden days of the NHL in the 1920s and 1930s. Hailing from his personal collection, we have skates attributed to his time with the Leafs (1931-32, and 1934-37) that apparently were also used while playing for the RCAF (Toronto and Ottawa, 1939-41), along with knee pads, and a pair of sticks. Dunne Pro models with 1925 patent dates, "Finnigan" is stamped to each underside boot with "RCAF" handwritten (almost worn away), with a Love & Bennett MLG tag to the tongue on the left skate. The pair show considerable use, with the leather worn and rusting and scratches to the blades, with one of the blade broken at the toe. The sticks include a circa-1920s "Extra Special" model possibly used with Ottawa that shows heavy use with the blade and handle tape intact. The next stick is a Hespeler Special Pro circa 1940, possibly used with the RCAF or just shortly after. The knee pads are felt with black leather, with one having a Lionel Conacher label, with the pair showing heavy use. As an added bonus, a HOF replica of the first sticks used in 1886 is also included, with a signature and "1978" handwritten date. Finding equipment used by a legendary player rarely occurs, with this group ideal for any advanced collection.
