Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Experiencing life in the National Hockey League for a total of 47 games over the parts of four (4) seasons of play from 1988-89 to 1991-92 with the Vancouver Canucks, Jay Mazur would experience his most productive NHL stint during the 1990-91 campaign when he recorded 11 goals and 7 assists for 18 points in 36 games played. Made by CCM, a Maska Ultrafil tag displaying a handwritten size "54" in blue ballpoint pen is affixed to the inner collar while the CCM and NHL shield logos have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with an iconic Canucks "flying skate" team crest that features embroidered details throughout its entirety, the sleeves and verso of the garment have been accented with Mazur's number "33" in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while "Mazur" is spelt out in single layer black twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the back. Of note, the jersey has seen its second number changed on the sleeves and verso by the team from what appears to be a "9" to the "3" that is affixed currently with the outline of the former numeral still seen. Mazur is only listed as ever wearing number "33" throughout his NHL career and nobody is listed as ever wearing the number "39" with the Canucks until the 1997-98 season. The jersey was likely a hastily made up one for Mazur upon a call up or return from injury. Exhibiting light very game-wear, light stick marks are seen over the lower front and right sleeve while a small board burn is present in the black stripe of the left sleeve. Also sporting a light red board paint transfer over the fight strap on the reverse, staining and other marks are observed throughout as well along with light pilling on the outside of the left cuff and interior.
