In a professional career spanning over two decades, Igor Korolev began play in his native Russia with Dynamo Moscow, and made his NHL debut in 1992-93 with St Louis. Dressing for five NHL clubs throughout his tenure, Korolev would conclude his career back in his homeland with the KHL's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in 2009-10. From his second of four seasons in Ontario, we have a photo-matched Toronto Maple Leafs throwback third jersey worn by the Soviet champion in games against Original Six clubs during the 1998-99 season. Made by Nike and tagged a size “56” with Nike, Centering Ice Authentic Collection and NHL Player labelling resides inside the inner collar. The front of the tie-neck garment is decorated with a beautiful vintage style Maple Leafs crest that has “Toronto Maple Leafs” embroidered along with other details. Sporting the all-important Maple Leaf Gardens: Memories and Dreams patch to celebrate the final season of play at the grand old barn over the right breast, the sleeves and verso have been accented with "22” in single layer blue twill numerals, with “Korolev” in matching style spelt out across the affixed matching nameplate. Nice use is exhibited on the garment, with stick and puck marks to the lower front, with additional marks and burns to the sleeves. Team repairs are also visible, with two repairs on the left sleeve, and one on the right. Getty Image #396437 (Jan 7, 1999) has been matched to the team repair to the right of the "22" on the right sleeve, with the extended white thread just above and to the left of the M&D patch and dark mark to the lower left of the "22" on the left sleeve both showing. The Leafs team patch denoting the jersey as a “1998-1999 Game Worn Commemorative Set” offering is affixed to the inside seam. A Leafs LOA signed by then President Ken Dryden will accompany.
