Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2023
Released in 1995 and on the radar of serious collectors, world renowned comic creator Charles M. Schultz issued a series of limited-edition lithographs of his iconic Peanuts characters, notably Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Woodstock. Offered here, we have a gorgeous hockey-themed example titled, “Circle the Zambonis” that features all three aforementioned characters. Measuring approx. 13 ¾” x 22 ½” and framed to full dimensions of 34” x 26”, each character is perfectly depicted, with a green-touqued Snoopy grasping a hockey stick and Woodstock cleaning the ice. Serial numbered “181-500” in pencil along the lower left, Schultz has greatly augmented the lithograph with a large flowing pencil signature along the bottom right. Additionally, some of the greatest hockey players to wear number “9” have signed the piece in black marker including Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Maurice Richard, Bobby Hull, Andy Bathgate, Johnny Bucyk, Ted Kennedy, Norm Ullman and Adam Graves with all the signatures still bold and legible. Of note, the autographs of Kennedy and Hull show some wear/lightness, likely from a failing marker. A beautiful piece that is matted under a light blue matte with a dark inner edge and housed in black frame with beaded details that shows light wear to the edges and corners, a JSA sticker numbered “X03781” is affixed at the bottom right and is accompanied by a matching JSA LOA.
While all of our frames are thoroughly and safely packaged for shipping, due to the size and/or weight, and dependent upon the shipping company, we should mention that damage may occur in transit. Please note that as such, we are not responsible for damage to frames that occur during shipping.
