Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
On October 31, 2000, a local Washington radio station had a promotion in which they offered Capitals fans a free ticket and Richard Zedník jersey if they dyed their hair blond as Zedník had in the off-season. Two-hundred "Zed Heads" attended the game at which Zedník scored his first career hat-trick against the Detroit Red Wings. This Capitals jersey was worn by the Slovak international during the 1996-97 NHL season. A size "54" fly tag remains affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back bottom hem. Featuring the attractive eagle team crest, the solid white sweater has been adorned with triple-twill sleeve and verso numbers, with matching alternate patches residing over each shoulder. The "JB" patch in honor of the passing of long time Washington Capitals executive Jack “Bulldog” Button is sewn above the right breast. Showing great game-use, there are marks to the front including a large stick mark, with additional marks to the sleeves and board burns to the left elbow with a resulting hole. There is also some fraying to the black twill sleeve numbers and nameplate letters. The reverse of the team crest is stamped "Customized for the Washington Capitals - Cutting Edge Sports - Set #1 1996-97". An LOA and COR from MeiGray will accompany.
