Three-time division champs mid-way through their 1962-77 existence, the Baltimore Clippers were members of the AHL, playing home games at the Baltimore Civic Center on the site where the Continental Congress met in 1776. From the club’s inaugural season in 1962-63, we have a Baltimore Clippers wool jersey originally donned by Duane Rupp. Size "44" tagging from prominent supplier Gerry Cosby sits affixed to the collar, with the vintage wool styled with a circular canvas Clippers team crest featuring embroidered details. Accented with gorgeous dual-colour drop-shadow “6” on verso, with the number repeated on each upper sleeve in single black twill, the V-neck sweater also utilizes vertical sleeve and lower striping bands. This particular style jersey with its specific team crest, was only utilized during the club’s first AHL season. The jersey shows good use with a number of team repairs and pilling as well as a few unrepaired holes, with the repairs situated on the front (5), reverse (1), left shoulder (2) and sleeves (11). While we needn’t emphasize the rarity of quality wool sweaters, this particular example’s unique one-season design, inaugural season status and blinding scarcity, make it highly desirable to collectors. An LOA will accompany.
