Playing for the Winnipeg Maroons alongside fellow Winnipegger Charlie Gardiner, where he led the AHA in scoring in 1926-27, Cecil Browne would join the Hall of Fame goaltender, spending part of the 1927-28 season with the Chicago Black Hawks. The St James native would excel at a number of sports including baseball, where he starred with the Dominion Express, and was later named "Manitoba's Athlete of the Century" in 1970. Coaching after his playing days, Browne would take the MJHL's Elmwood Maple Leafs to the promise land, with the club winning the Manitoba Championship in 1935-36, and advancing to the Memorial Cup Western Final. This silver plate tea pot was presented to Browne for the Maple Leafs championship in 1935-36. At almost 12" in height, with intact lid and spout cap, "Elmwood Maple Leafs - Junior Hockey Club - Manitoba Champions 1935-36" is engraved, along with "Presented to Cec. Browne Coach". The reverse has each players facsimile signature engraved, including goaltender Bill "Legs" Fraser, with a Rogers Silver logo stamped to the underside along with "Silver Plate on Copper", "B.M.MTS" and "330". There is some tarnishing throughout, with the unique keepsake sporting a single small dent. The lid is also engraved with "John J Boyd" - likely the president of the MJHL.
