Widely popular amongst collectors for the player selection, key rookie cards, and the challenge that the sensitive design presents, the 1971 Topps baseball release, featuring a eye-popping 752 cards, also is popular amongst set builders that are slowly compiling the daunting checklist it showcases. Considered to be the most condition-sensitive of all-time, offered here is this complete assembly of Topps' 1971 baseball release. Seen as being in an overall uniform condition range of VG to VG-EX and EX with light corner wear present on most of the included cards, the set's key rookie cards of those of Bert Blyleven (VG to VG-EX - light corner and border wear), Steve Garvey (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear) and Don Baylor (VG to VG-EX - SP - corner wear). For the notable star cards, the examples of 513-Ryan (light border and corner wear) and 600-Mays (off-center top-to-bottom and light corner wear) lead the way condition wise, both ringing in around the scope of VG-EX to EX while those of 100-Rose (corner wear), 160-Seaver (85-15 centering and corner wear), 210-Carew (light corner wear) and 530-Yaztrzemski (light corner wear) are all viewed as being in the neighbourhood of VG to VG-EX for their effort. For the rest of the key's worth making mention of, card #250 of Johnny Bench is seen as being in the vicinity of VG to VG+ condition with corner wear and a ding to the top left point worth pointing out for accuracy while card #5 of Yankees catcher, Therman Munson, falls into the range of G to VG, presenting completely off-center and with corner wear. With the examples of both 400-Aaron and 630-Clemente in the condition scope of PR to F due to a pinhole and damage respectively, cards 20-Jackson, 525-Banks and 625-Brock all show signs of being altered with what appears to be black marker touch ups along the borders. A fun trip back in time, this set awaits its new owner.
