Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Highlighted by the set's key rookie cards of Marcus Allen, Jim McMahon and Mike Singletary, Topps' 1983 football release featured a checklist that consisted of 396-cards, down from the decade long norm of 528-cards, while still packing some of the top names in the National Football League such as Lawrence Taylor, Walter Payton and Joe Montana. Marking a shift in the football card market to what would become the familiar styling throughout the remainder of the 1980's, offered here we have this unopened box of 1983 Topps football cards. Featuring a total of thirty-six (36) packs on the interior, each housing 13 cards, 1 sticker and of course, a stick of beautifully pink bubble gum, the unopened specialists at Baseball Card Exchange recently examined the packs and deemed them unopened and then sealed the box with the company’s shrink wrap. Featuring the image of Washington Redskins quarterback, Joe Theismann, over the top lid, which has been partially perforated, an image of the card picturing his teammate John Riggins graces both the left and right sides of the survivor. Presenting with light surface wear to the top lid, left and right sides as well as the back, the front side of the box presents with edge wear, as does the back side though in a lighter capacity. With the left and right edges of the top lid folded over the sides, the bottom of the box shows light soiling and creasing. With a small edge flaw/fold back to the left of Theismann's right shoulder, the bottom of the box has had a Baseball Card Exchange information label and hologram affixed over top of the cellophane. A true surviving treasure, the only question that remains for our lucky winning bidder is whether or not to bust this beauty open upon receiving it. Good luck!
