Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/28/2023
Dating back to a season that saw the Oakland Raiders knock of the Philadelphia Eagles to claim the Super Bowl, up for grabs here is this unopened wax box of 1980 Topps Football. Having a checklist of 563 total cards, the rookie card lineup of six dozen is led by quarterback Phil Simms while other notables include the first-year cardboard of Ottis Anderson, Lester Hayes, Clay Matthews and Matt Bahr, while stars Walter Payton, Tony Dorsett and Steve Largent appear on regular issues and Team Leader/Checklist cards. That Bradshaw guy is also noteworthy, as is pack size; 12 cards per along with a stick of bubble gum with thirty-six (36) such examples contained inside. Before sealing up this box with its shrink wrap, unopened specialist BBCE examined the packs to confirm they had not been tampered with, with the dandy display box fun to hold and check out/admire. Showing surface wear/areas of colour loss all the way around, lightest on the front side, edge and corner wear are worth mentioning as is some creasing along the bottom, front side and lid with other smaller/lighter creases dotted throughout as well. The fold up display (with a .25 cent original purchase price identifier) is only partially perforated with the sides of the lid also slightly folding over the sides of the box as well. With BBCE’s identifying label and a hologram affixed in the standard place on the bottom, the box is surely worthy of any unopened wax box collection, and will for sure enhance yours should you be the lucky winning bidder.
