Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Serving as over 50% of a complete set of early-1960s CFL nodder/bobbing head dolls, we offer a group of 5 including Toronto, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Montreal and BC (there were 9 CFL teams during the era). All in the 6" to 6 1/2" inch range give or take, each team has a decal to the chest, with Toronto and Montreal also having team decals to the base. The Blue Bombers doll has a few cracks repaired (only noticeable within the head), while the Argos has minor chipping to the underside along with a pair of cracks (one looks possible repaired with glue). The Lions has a chip with crack to the underside, the Als doll has just some minor chipping to the underside, and the Ticats doll has a single chip to the underside and a thin hairline crack. We should also note that Tim Hunter in his definitive "Bobbing Head Dolls" guide mentions that the Montreal doll is difficult to find. This lot and many others in this auction hail from an advanced NHL and CFL nodder/bobbing head collection.
Addendum: Upon closer inspection with a blacklight, the Riders doll has colour that was added to the neck and face, while the Als doll has colour added to the helmet. Additionally, the Bombers doll has the helmet and face repainted.
