Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Colourfully bordered and condition sensitive, offered here is this complete 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee issue consisting of 264 total cards in a mix of both grey and white back offerings. Housed in plastic nine-pocket binder pages that have been placed within a binder, the group overall appears to be in the condition range of EX to EX-MT on average. Including extra copies of card #30 picturing Bobby Orr and #142, the rookie card of Billy Smith that have been graded KSA NM+ 7.5 and ACA EX-MT 6 respectively, the set is paced by first-year cardboard of Bill Barber (EX to EX-MT), Billy Smith (G to VG – crease + corner wear) and Larry Robinson (EX to EX-MT – top left corner ding). For the key cards, EX-MT to NM of 17-Dionne (60-40 centering), 50-Clarke (60-40 centering), 72-Lafleur (60-40 centering) and 132-SIttler (70-30 centering) are observed while being followed up by EX to EX-MT copies of 66-Parent (light corner wear) and 263-Checklist (unmarked – corner wear). For the rest of the key cards, VG-EX to EX cards of #30 Bobby Orr and #70 Gilbert Perreault are included with the Orr slightly faded and the Perreault plagued by a bottom right corner ding. Closed out with a FR to G copy of checklist #129 that is unmarked but creased and a PR to FR copy of checklist #116 that is marked and has damage at the top right, an extra card of Johnny Buyck is included and the other star cards are consistent with the average grade range the rest of the set is in. A classic trip down memory lane awaits our lucky winning bidder!
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA and ACA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
