Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
A classic set that is high up on everybody’s want list in the hockey card hobby, O-Pee-Chee’s 1971-72 set is offered here with the assembly highlighted by fifty (50) KSA graded offerings. Led by the key rookie card trio of Marcel Dionne, Guy Lafleur and Ken Dryden, the Dionne and Lafleur examples have earned marks of ENM+ 6.5 and NMM 8 respectively after they were inspected while the Dryden card, still is raw ungraded form, falls closer to a mark of G to VG due to couple of creases, corner damage and some deep surface scratches. For the rest of the graded cards, a pair of NGM 9.5’s leads the way and include the cardboard of Marc Tardiff and Richard Martin (RC), while MINT 9’s total five (5) and include card’s #56, 93, 208, 218 and 219. Featuring NMM+ 8.5’s of 42-Kurtenbach, 88-Goyette, 107-Pratt, 110-T. Esposito, 123-Gilbert, 137-Daley, 163-Anderson and 256-Plante AS, the rest of the NMM 8’s include those of 46-Vadnais, 95-Johnson and 162-Atkinson. Moving on to NM+ 7.5’s, we have the cardboard of 28-Woytowich, 91-Berenson, 153-Howell, 164-Duff, 205-Hughes, 210-Maki and 220-Giacomin while NM 7’s feature the likes of 69-Magnuson, 99-Edwards, 127-Crisp, 147-Houle and 197-Glennie. For the ENM+ 6.5’s, nine (9) examples are present including cards of 20-P. Esposito, 61-Hicke, 63-DeJordy, 92-Pelyk, 96-Shack, 146-Larose, 196-Plante, 198-Spencer and 251-Orr AS. Getting down to the final few slabbed specimens, ENM 6’s are found of 6-Shmyr, 40-Park, 50-Hull, 52-Ecclestone, 132-Watson, 206-Nolet and 262-Howe while the last two cards are found in the form of VGE 4’s of 100-Orr and 196-Baun. For the rest of the cards, all in ungraded raw form, the cardboard generally seems reflect condition-wise the cards which have been graded by KSA, falling in the mid-grade or slightly better vicinity with a portion of the cards in lower grades while just a small number of them sport creases or wax stains on their fronts worth mentioning for accuracy. Overall, we’re sure that these blasts from the past will be most pleasing to our lucky winning bidder. Of note, all the KSA holders remain in good condition with just a couple of light scratches found on some after inspection. Checklist cards (not pictured) 111 (marked Fair to Poor) and 264 (unmarked good - very good)
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
