Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

A strong rookie card roster and a nifty design has long made Topps’ 1965-66 puck effort popular among collectors. Sporting a checklist that included 128-cards for youngsters to chase in packs, offered here is this partial set that includes 97 of the 128 cards. Not including the key rookie cards of 21-Giacomin, 31-Cheevers, 51-Henderson, 64-D. Hull, 76-Cournoyer and 116-P. Esposito, the group also does not include the notable cards of 1-Blake, 2-Worsley, 12-Sawchuk, 17-Keon, 59-B. Hull, 60-Mikita, 66-checklist 1, 71-Richard, 79-Horton, 81-Mahovlich, 108-Howe, 121-checklist 2, 122-Howe, 123-Maple Leafs, 125-Blackhawks, 126-Canadiens and 128-Bruins. For the cards that are included, a single graded card is found in the form of a PSA VG 3 copy of Ken Hodge’s RC. Appearing in an overall consistent grade range of VG-EX to EX in our opinions with some better examples and exceptions found and almost all showing varying degress of corner wear, the notables of the remaining raw ungraded specimens include an EX to EX-MT range copy of Bob Baun and an EX vicinity specimen of Norm Ullman that shows light touches of wear to a couple of the four corners. Continuing on, VG-EX to EX cards are present for Jean Ratelle (light corner wear) and Roger Crozier (small ding at the top left corner and slight wear at the bottom left corner) while the VG-EX scope category includes the likes of 3-Laperriere (slight corner wear and toning, off-center 90-10 from right-to-left), 18-Pulford (light corner wear, off-center 90-10 right-to-left), 19-Armstrong (slight corner wear all the way around and a light touch of toning) and 101-Bucyk (slight corner wear and toning, heavily off-center right-to-left). Closing out the notables, VG to VG-EX proximity cards are present for 22-Howell (O.C. bottom-to-top, slight corner wear, toning and a couple of small dings to top edge), 91-Gilbert (heavily O.C., slight corner wear and a border ding on top edge) and 124-Black Hawks (spot on reverse), while 127-New York Rangers is seen as being in the vicinity of G to VG due to a crease along with corner and edge wear.
