Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Attractive-looking example from Imperial Tobacco's very first hockey card issue in 1910-11 pictures legendary Hall-of-Famer Art Ross, one of his era's finest players and one of the grandest contributors our game has ever known, in his Haileybury turtleneck sweater and has been encapsulated by the PSA grading company. This early hockey series contains the first cards of every player in the set, so collectors consider any player listed as a rookie. The card's back mentions the future Boston Bruins coach and manager as a sporting goods merchant and lists his previous Brandon, Kenora and Wanderers teams. Slabbed and sealed, this particular copy of Ross’ coveted first-year tobacco offering has earned the respectable mid-grade mark of VG-EX 4 after its recent evaluation while the PSA holder shows just a couple of scratches over both sides. It is worth noting that of the 119 examples of this card that have been submitted to PSA over the years, this pop-18 example has been bested by only 22 cards graded higher; two (2) PSA 4.5’s, thirteen (13) PSA 5’s, one (1) PSA 5.5, four (4) PSA 6’s and two (2) PSA 7’s meaning you can be sure your all-important vintage collection is getting a top-level specimen.
