A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and 1992 as well as a bronze medalist with Team USA at the 1996 IIHF World Hockey Championships, Kevin Stevens, who was once offered MLB try-outs with the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies, played a total 874 games in his 15-year NHL career after being selected 108th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 1983. Offered here, is this New York Rangers jersey worn by Stevens during the 1998-99 season, his second of three spent in the bright lights of the city that never sleeps. Made by Starter, both size “58-G” and Center Ice/Starter labeling is sewn into the inner collar while both the Starter logo and NHL shield have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated with “Rangers” going diagonally down the chest of the mesh construction garment in drop shadow blue-over-red tackle twill letters, the sleeves and verso have had Stevens’ number “17” sewn to them in matching style with “Stevens” spelt out arched across the upper back in matching drop shadow letters that have been sewn directly to the jersey themselves. Exhibiting good game-use throughout, board burns are seen over both sleeves and shoulders while stick marks are observed over the left sleeve, front hem and directly to the left of the “S” in “Stevens” on the reverse. Additionally, numerous unrepaired cuts are present between the numbers of the left sleeve and light spot stains are found over the right sleeve and under the “N” in “Rangers” on the front as well. With light pilling found around the elbow reinforcements on the interior, a Rangers team patch denoting the jersey as a “1998-1999 Season Game Jersey Set 2” offering is sewn over the rear hem alongside a MeiGray tag which lists the same particulars. A Rangers LOA signed by Team President and GM, Neil Smith, will accompany the piece along with a MeiGray COR.
