Representing his native Finland internationally throughout his career including at the Winter Olympics and World Cup of Hockey, Aki Berg was drafted 3rd overall by Los Angeles in 1995, playing parts of five seasons with the club. Presented here is the jersey that Berg wore during the third period on the night that the Kings moved into their new digs at the Staples Center on October 20th, 1999, against the Boston Bruins. The purple ensemble features size “58” tagging found on the inner collar with the logos of CCM and the NHL found on the rear hem. The front of the jersey features the heavily embroidered Kings crown crest that sparkles in every sense of the imagination as well as the NHL 2000 patch residing over the right breast, and “Los Angeles” down near the hem. The sleeves and verso of the jersey feature "5” in dual layer stacked tackle twill in black and silver with “Berg” in the same metallic twill stitched directly on to the back of the jersey. The shoulders are decorated with the Kings secondary logo patch. There is no real evidence of game wear as the jersey was only worn for the one period of play. The interior of the jersey features initials and the team patch listing the jersey as for the opening night of Staples Center and part of set C (third period). The jersey comes with a team issued letter of authenticity from the Kings.
