A veteran of a lengthy 16-year National Hockey League career, Jason Smith would play 162 games in the blue and white of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1997 to 1999 before going on to captain both the Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers. Up for grabs here, is this Maple Leafs throwback third jersey worn by Smith in games against Original Six clubs during the 1998-99 season. Made by Nike and tagged a size “56” with Nike, Centering Ice Authentic Collection and NHL Player labelling inside the inner collar, the front of the tie-neck garment is decorated with a beautiful vintage style Maple Leafs crest that has “Toronto Maple Leafs” embroidered along with other details. Sporting the all-important Maple Leaf Gardens: Memories and Dreams patch to celebrate the final season of play at the grand old barn over the right breast, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Smith’s number “25” in single layer blue twill numerals with “J. Smith” in matching style spelt out across the affixed matching nameplate. Sporting light game-use, stick marks are seen over the sleeves and front of the jersey with board burns and red paint transfers over both sleeves as well. Showing light pilling on the interior at the elbows as well as a Leafs team tag denoting the jersey as a “1998-1999 Game Worn Commemorative Set” offering, the jersey is accompanied by a Leafs LOA signed by then President, Ken Dryden.
