Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Exquisite period advertising featuring the early game, we have a circa 1905-10 Wampole's Extract Cod Liver oil hockey-themed point of sale store display sign. Large at 23" x 27", made of sturdy cardboard and ideal for prominent display, the sign features a game in progress in the background, with a player in period high neck wool sweater with gauntlets being offered a Wampole pennant by an attractive female. While the right side of the piece has been trimmed, this is very minor, with the hockey scene and player unaffected. There is surface wear including along edges from what appears to be a previous framing or mounting, with a handbill from the company affixed to the reverse. Despite the minimal issues, the sign displays wonderfully. Henry K. Wampole founded the Wampole brand, the 1st Canadian Established Supplements Company. In 1905, he and his partners moved production to Perth, Ontario and they began manufacturing the popular Cod Liver Oil. Wampole is currently a privately owned Canadian company headquartered in Montréal, Québec. Recognized as a Canadian leader in vitamins and minerals supplement nutritional and herbal products, the Wampole name is associated with quality and value from coast-to-coast. This is the first example of this stunning advertising sign we have ever encountered at Classic Auctions.
