Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
The first of five tournaments organized by Alan Eagleson that showcased the greatest hockey nations on earth, the 1976 Canada Cup featured the world’s six best competing countries battling for supremacy, with Canada meeting Czechoslovakia in a three-game final. The mighty maple leaf would prove victorious, with Darryl Sittler scoring the tournament-winning goal in Game 2 of the final. This stick was used by Sittler at the 1976 Canada Cup. A CCM model with "Canada Cup 76" graphics, "Sittler" is stamped but partially buried over the upper shaft, with the original tape to the handle, with the blade tape removed (the outline is visible). There is some discoloured clear tape that has been added to the bottom of the handle that appears period, with the stick showing a large crack to the blade and subtle separation at the top of the heel. Despite these imperfections, the stick remains solid. There are also marks and wear to the underside blade, with a few small traces of both red and blue paint transfer to the upper shaft.
