While often ostracized in the baseball world due to his suspected use of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs throughout his 22-year Major League Baseball career, one thing for certain is that there has never been a slugger in the history of the Major Leagues as great as Barry Bonds. The all-time home run king (762) and record holder for most home runs in a season (73), many people forget that Bonds also topped the .300 mark eleven times, including a league leading .370 in 2002, followed by .342 and .361 seasons in 2003 and 2004 respectively. And unlike Babe Ruth, who had Lou Gehrig batting behind him and Hank Aaron, who had Eddie Mathews, Bonds did not have a Hall of Famer backing him up, and was pitched around or intentionally walked at a record shattering rate. In 2004 alone, Bonds was intentionally walked 120 times, almost 20% of his total plate appearances!
Up for grabs here, it is our pleasure to present this Pittsburgh Pirates jersey worn by a young Bonds during his All-Star, MVP, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger season of 1992, a year in which he hit .311 and the Pirates won the National League East. Made by Rawlings with the brand's size "44" jock tag sewn over the inner front left tail, additional tagging in the same area depicts the jersey as being a “Set 1 1992” garment. Decorated over the front with “Pittsburgh” in script font and Bond’s “24” over the left side with both in dual layer black-over-yellow tackle twill, “Bonds” appears in matching style over the reverse affixed matching nameplate with his “24” found below in matching style as well. Accented with a Pirates logo patch over the left sleeve with the ends of each showing striped black and yellow cuffs, the jersey show with just light use being evident with some stains observed over the front, reverse and right sleeve. A Mears sticker numbered “300006” is affixed to the Rawlings jock tag but is not accompanied by a matching LOA though an LOA from Mile High Card Company will be included.
