Surfacing far less frequently than their Series A and B counterparts/predecessors are O-Pee-Chee Series C cards from the 1935-36 season, with the two-dozen comprising the set here all recently having been received back from the graders at PSA. Led by a group that includes Lynn Patrick (RC – EX 5), Hooley Smith (EX 5), Arthur Coulter (RC – EX 5), Wilfred Cude (RC – EX-MT 6 – POP 2 with only 1 higher!), Jean Pusie (RC – EX-MT 6 – POP 2 with only 1 higher!) and Russ Blinco (RC – NM 7 – POP 3 with only 1 higher!), two of the cards sent to PSA, #82 of Sylvio Mantha and #96 of Leroy Goldsworthy, have come back labeled “Miscut - Do Not Holder”. For the remaining cards, Gus Marker’s first year cardboard has leads the pack having garnered a grade of EX-MT 6 and is followed closely behind by the RC’s of #87 Pep Kelly and #92 Roger Jenkins who have both been deemed worthy of EX+ 5.5 designations. The most common grade found is that of PSA’s EX 5 which is found on the holder labels of Herbert Cain (RC), Johnny Gottselig, Flash Hollett (RC), Nick Metz (RC), Bill Thoms, Art Jackson (RC), Allan Shields (RC), Buzz Boll and Paul Haynes. The last four cards of the set include a lone PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 of Art Chapman as well as VG-EX 4’s of Jack McGill (RC) and Hec Kilrea while the cardboard of Martin Barry brings up the rear, displaying a still respectable mark of VG 3. For those of you wanting to cross off a complete set from your want list of pre-war collectibles, this intriguing assembly will allow you to do just that.
