Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

With over a quarter-century of service as the NHL’s first president, Frank Calder’s legacy lives on in the Calder Memorial Trophy awarded to the league’s top rookie each season. Addressed to HOFer Harry "Punch" Broadbent and originating from his personal collection, we have a document on NHL letterhead signed by Frank Calder. At roughly 8” x 10” and on official NHL stationary, dated "Dec 22, 1925", the cream-coloured document features correspondence referring to Broadbent receiving two major "fouls", with Calder warning the Montreal Maroon's star that one more foul will bring about a suspension. Calder has signed beneath the typed text in period fountain pen, and the signature is exemplary. The single page remains in very good condition with expected fold lines along with tiny edge tears and a few minor stains. There are also a few handwritten notations on the reverse. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany.
