Hailing from a period of time in the National Hockey League that can be described at the “dynasty era”, only six different franchises, Montreal, Boston Philadelphia, New York, Edmonton and Calgary, won Stanley Cups between 1970 and 1990. Offered here, is this collection of hockey cards dating between the 1970s and 1990s totalling 150+ that includes both rookies and star cards. For the rookie offerings, the group is led condition wise by first year cardboard of Islander teammates Billy Smith (1973-74) and Denis Potvin (1974-75) who both fall in the range of VG-EX to EX with the Smith showing a top left corner ding and the Potvin light corner wear and wax residue. Of note, a second copy of Smith’s card in included but is found in PR (poor) condition due to tape on the front. RC’s in the condition proximity of EX include a 1988-89 OPC of Brett Hull (bottom right corner ding) and a 1985-86 OPC Rookie Scoring Leaders of Mario Lemieux while Andy Moog’s 1981-82 OPC rookie follows in close proximity around VG-EX. Al MacInnis’ 1985-86 card presents in the range of VG condition with corner wear as does a copy of Mark Messier’s 1980-81 OPC offering, with a second RC of the 6-time Stanley Cup champion a bit worse off in G to VG range due to corner and edge wear/dings and light creases. Serge Savard, the oldest RC of the bunch from 1969-70, is joined by 1973-74 freshman, Bill Barber in the scope of G (good) with both showing creases. Not to be out done, RC’s from 1974-75 OPC of Scotty Bowman (FR to G), Steve Shutt (G to VG) and Glenn Resch (x2 – both VG-EX) are also present and accounted for. The last of the rookie cards of noteworthy status that are include are those of Kevin Lowe (1981-82) and Mario Lemieux (1985-86) with their cards in FR to G and PR to FR vicinity respectively with corner wear and multiple creases being present. Other cards included, mostly in the mid-range grade scope ranging from G to VG up to VG-EX with some worse off and better examples as well, display the images of Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretky (multiple all-star and award winner specimens along with regular releases), Guy Lafleur, Bobby Hull, Tony and Phil Esposito, Gerry Cheevers, Cam Neely, Ray Bourque and many others. Finally, those that have been graded total five (5) and include an additional 1988-89 Brett Hull rookie that has earned a ENM+ 6.5 from KSA as well as a 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee 2nd series checklist that has been deemed worthy of a VG-EX 4.
It must be noted that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those currently employed by PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this piece through any of those services, then, would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
