Described as “giant” on the display box housed the coveted wax packs containing bubble gum and cards from Parkhurst’s 1953-54 hockey release, the complete 100-card assembly is offered here, led by a freshly graded PSA grouping that includes the key rookie card of “Le Gros Bill” that has garnered a VG-EX 4, other noteworthy graded examples include cards of #24 Maurice Richard (VG-EX 4), #50 Gordie Howe (EX 5) and #30 Lach/Richard (EX-MT 6). The rest of the graded offerings are paced by an EX-MT 6 example of card #56 of Andy Bathgate’s RC while Rangers teammate Harry Howell’s rookie follows close behind with his very respectable EX 5. The last three slabbed cards feature the star power of Terry Sawchuk, the sophomore card of Tim Horton and the other key rookie card of the set in the form of Gump Worsley, all having been deemed worthy of VG-EX 4 designations on their labels. For the raw cards, those falling into the grade range of EX include #’s 18 (crease at top left corner on the reverse), 19, 26-Harvey (off-center), 29-Geoffrion, 31-Lach, 33, 39, 51, 52-Lindsay (off-center), 62, 63, 66 (RC -top right corner ding on the reverse), 67, 74, 79, 85 and 91 (stats on back).
Cards falling into the vicinity of VG-EX to EX total fifty (50), representing exactly half of the set and include the #’s 5, 8, 11-Armstrong, 15, 20 (RC), 21, 35, 36 (RC), 38 (RC), 40-Kelly, 41, 42 (staining on the reverse), 43 (staining on the reverse), 44 (staining on the reverse), 48, 49, 54, 55-Bentley, 58, 59, 60, 61 (staining on the reverse), 64-Stanley, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73 (staining on the reverse), 75, 76, 77, 78, 80-Mosienko (staining on the reverse), 81, 82 (miscut on the reverse), 83, 84, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91 (no stats on back - edge wear), 93, 94 (mark on reverse), 95, 96-Dumart, 97 (RC) and 98 (RC) with majority of the wear found via minor edge and corner wear/dings and centering issues along with light toning though most of the cards still present with some whiteness to their borders.
Cards found in the scope of VG to VG-EX condition include twenty-two offerings with many showing evidence of having placed into an album at one time based on the toning at the corners. Present are #’s 2, 3, 4 (bottom left corner ding on reverse), 6 (staining on reverse), 7-Kennedy (toning), 10 (RC - corner wear), 12-Watson (crease), 14, 16, 17 (crease and toning/foxing), 22 (surface wear on front plus rough cut left edge), 23 (rough cut left edge and fold line across the top on the reverse), 25-McNeil (staining on reverse), 28-Moore (staining and residue on reverse), 32-Bouchard, 34 (residue and marks on reverse), 37 (RC), 45, 47-Delvecchio (staining on reverse), 92-Schmidt (staining on reverse), 99 (pen mark on reverse) and 100-Quackenbush (staining on reverse).
The last three cards that make up the complete set are all found in the range of G (Good) condition and include #’s 1-Lumley (large crease), 9-Stewart (residue on front) and 65-Reise (crease). Additionally, extra copies of cards #91-Mackell (stats on back), 99-Gardner and 100-Quackenbush are included with all three in the range of G to VG.
