Drafted 69th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 1979, Glenn Anderson would crack the NHL lineup beginning with the 1980-81 season and become a mainstay in blue and orange for the next 12 years, helping the club to five (5) Stanley Cup championships over that time. Offered here, is this jersey worn by Anderson during the 1981-82 season that has been photo-matched numerous times, including to Wayne Gretzky’s single season record breaking 77th goal on February 24th, 1982. Made by Sandow SK and currently void of any tagging in the inner collar, the jersey measures out roughly a size “52”. Featuring the Sandow SK logo heat-pressed over the rear hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with the well-known Oilers oil drop team crest done in flight satin with Anderson’s number “9” gracing the sleeves and verso in tri-layer numerals of matching material. “Anderson” has been spelt out across the affixed matching mesh nameplate in single layer white flight satin letters. The all-important “International Year of Disabled Persons 1981” patch is present over the right shoulder while the loop of the loop style fight strap on the interior has been cut away. Riddled with game-use, dark stick marks are seen throughout the entirety of the sleeves and body with numerous board burns also being observed as well along with orange coloured board paint transfers over both left and right hips, left side and lower reverse with a yellow coloured one seen at the right hip as well. Additionally, team repairs totalling no less than 17 are found over the sleeves and body of the garment with many of the fabric backed and joined by a number of small unrepaired holes as well. On the interior of the jersey, pilling exhibited in a number of places, most notably at the elbows. Of note, the white areas of the jersey are in a grayish blue state due to colour bleed from numerous washings. Registered by Meigray Vintage and LOA from them will accompany the piece.
Regarding the aforementioned photo-matches, the jersey has been matched via the board burn over the rear Sandow SK logo to Wayne Gretzky’s 77th goal of the season on February 24th, 1982 vs Buffalo which gave him the record over Phil Esposito as seen in Getty Images #1411039198 and #486509332 (February 24th, 1981 vs Buffalo). The jersey is also matched with Getty Image #1271871206, that is undated but either from January 13th or February 28th when the Oilers were in Washington to play the Capitals, to the same board burn through the Sandow SK logo. Other matches include Getty Image #1271871170 (January 13th or February 28th, 1982 vs Washington) that is matched to the dark mark in the “9” on the right sleeve as well as the marks below it and over the Oilers crest and Anderson’s 1982-83 O-Pee-Chee hockey card which shows the darkest black mark seen in the bottom white stripe on the lower front.
