Hailing from an era of the National Hockey League that can simply be described as “Pre-Gretzky and “During-Gretzky” due to the transition the game went through during that period of time, offered here is this lot consisting of complete sets of Topps’ 1976-77 and 1981-82 hockey releases. Starting with the older of the two, the ’76-77 set features a 264-card checklist and is found in a fairly consistent high-grade EX-MT/NM condition scope, led by the first year cardboard of Bryan Trottier that displays in the aforementioned EX-MT/NM range, key card’s in matching condition providing card #115 company include 91-Dionne, 200-Dryden and 213-Orr while cards 151-Robinson (slight bottom right corner ding) and 163-Lafleur (slight corner wear) fall closer to EX-MT range. The card of Bobby Clarke (#70 – diamond cut) is seen in the vicinity of EX while the team checklist cards all remain unmarked as do the main series examples with both in the range of EX-MT/NM. Of note, card #264 of the Stanley Cup is in a lower grade shape compared to the rest of the set, around VG.
For the ’81-82’s, the assembly remains in a high-grade EX-MT/NM condition range with the lone exception being the RC of Dave Babych, #1 in the checklist. Led by EX-MT/NM first year cards of Kurri, Stastny, Savard and Ciccarelli, star cards joining the young guns found in the same condition include 5-Bourque, 16-Gretzky (60-40 centering) and 52-Gretzky (Team Leaders) while both checklists are seen in the same condition and are mark free.
