An alluring pairing of early-to-mid-1980s offerings are up for grabs here via these complete 396-card assemblies of O-Pee-Chee’s 1983-84 and 1984-85 releases. Starting with the ’83-84 set that is found to be in a high-grade EX-MT to NM condition range, the group includes the five key rookie cards of Pelle Lindbergh, Steve Larmer, Bernie Nicholls, Brian Bellows and Scott Stevens with the first two remaining in the condition vicinity of EX-MT+ (Lindbergh has 80/20 centering as well as slight bottom corner wear, Larmer shows 60/40 centering with a slight bottom left corner ding) while the last three are all in the scope of EX-MT to NM. Key cards of 23-Gretzky/Messier, 25-Coffey, 29-Gretzky, 39-Messier, 45-Bourque and 385-Hawerchuk are all in uniform EX-MT to NM condition with card #212 of Wayne Gretzky (record breaker) slightly worse due to corner wear, falling to a EX-MT+ designation. Including six (6) other cards of “The Great One”, all three (3) checklists are unmarked and in the same EX-MT to NM condition range.
For the 1984-85 set, featuring an attractive design that is held in high regard among collectors, the ensemble offered here is in a high-grade EX-MT to NM condition with the odd exception found. Led by the first year cards of Yzerman, Lafontaine, Gilmour, Chelios and Neely, “Stevie-Y” finds his card earning an EX-MT+ designation upon inspection due to a slight corner ding at the bottom right. The cardboard of Lafontaine, Gilmour and Neely are all seen as EX-MT to NM (Lafontaine’s has 60-40 centering) while Chelios is one of the aforementioned exceptions at VG-EX due to bottom border damage. Wayne Gretzky is once again prominent in the checklist with numerous offerings all in the condition scope of EX-MT to NM with other keys including 1-Bourque, 239-Coffey, and 254-Messier also all displaying the same way. Once again, all three checklists remain unmarked and in a condition that is consistent with the other offerings listed above.
