Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

Before the NHL stardom and hailing from the very beginning of his HOF career, Mark Howe would spend the 1970-71 season playing with the Detroit Jr. Red Wings of Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League, registering 107 points in 44 games played as a 15-year-old. Not bad. Offered here, is this puck shot into the back of the net by Howe on December 31st, 1970 to complete his first junior hockey hat trick. A simple black puck that has been wrapped in a cross like pattern with white tape that covers any logos that may be underneath, “1st junior “A” hat. Dec 31, 70, #18, #19 + #20” has been penned over the wrapping in black ink. Remaining in good condition with just age present and gunk at the bottom front edge as well as light game-use exhibited over the puck itself, a stand for a different later date hat trick biscuit is also included. Made of plaster with chips seen on the edges, the worst being at the right side, a dish to the puck to sit in in found at the top with a plaque reading “Mark Howe – 3rd goal – February 27th, 1972 at Olympia Stadium – Detroit Junior. “A” Red Wings vs Welland” is found on top with some damage and oxidization present. Originally from his personal collection, an LOA signed by Howe will accompany the piece.
