Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
A trio of antique catcher's masks are offered, along with four early-1900s baseballs. Included, we have a late-19th century homemade mask. A cross between a Thayer style mask and early google-eye or "Spiderman" mask, the materials all appear to hail from the 1880s/90s, with good wear from use shown. Next, there is a Goldsmith mask from the 1912-26 labeling period (label is stamped to the chin pad), near complete, with the forehead strap held with tape and the upper strap missing. Moderate use is shown, with the mask displaying well. The final mask is a 1920s Ken-Wel model complete and original, with just light to moderate use shown, with a cloth label affixed to the strapping. The baseball's are the somewhat smaller size from the era and include a circa 1905 "Champion No 25" model with light wear including a small tear to the stitching, a circa 1910 "Old Hickory" model possibly made by Reach - with good use shown and fading to the stamping, a late-1910s/early-1920s D&M "Practice" ball in dark finish, with good use shown including scuffing, and a circa 1920s generic ball well used, with red and blue stitching. From the Brent Sobie antique hockey and baseball collection.
