Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/2/2023
Marking the second time Canadian company Parkhurst had released a set of hockey cards, the 1952-53 assembly would have been considered a set up at the time being larger than the cards released the year prior and with full sized images of players with information gracing the reverse while the checklist held consistent at 105 cards, highlighted by the RC of a young defenceman by the name of Tim Horton. Offered here, is this collection of 182 cards from Parkhurst’s 1952-53 set. Made up of numerous doubles, triples and beyond of the same cards, hghlights include a total of four (4) cards of “Boom Boom” Geoffrion (G to VG, VG, VG to VG-EX and VG-EX), four (4) cards of Elmer Lach (Altered – bottom right corner cut + diamond cut, VG, VG-EX and EX), a single copy of George Armstrong’s RC (VG – corner wear), two (2) cards of Harry Lumley (Altered – bottom left corner evidence and larger size, and VG with extra corner paper), two (2) cards of Milt Schmidt (Both altered), four (4) cards of Jim Henry (All EX – one showing a corner crease at the top left on the reverse) and three (3) cards of Allan Stanley (Altered – left edges and FR – bit of top right corner missing).
Overall in a fairly uniform grade range of VG-EX to EX with some obvious exceptions with flaws such as corner wear and creases, the group consists of no real big name’s stars or rookie cards except for what is listed above with a number of the cards found with multiple examples of each including #’s 3 (x4), 5 (x3), 6 (x4), 7 (x2), 8 (x3), 9 (x3), 12 (x2), 15 (x3), 17 (x3), 18 (x2), 19 (x2) 20 (x2), 21 (x3), 23 (x2), 24 (x2), 25 (x2), 36 (x4), 46 (x4), 48 (x2), 52 (x3), 54 (x4), 56 (x3), 59 (x2), 60 (x9), 61 (x4), 62 (x6), 63 (x11), 65 (x5), 68 (x2), 70 (x2), 71 (x2), 72 (x4), 74 (x4), 75 (x2), 76 (x2), 77 (x3) 78 (x3), 79 (x4), 81 (x3), 84 (x6), 85 (x6), 93 (x4), 99 (x2), 101 (x3) and 104 (x4). In total, 70 of the 105 cards that make up the set are included in the lot.
Most cards have uneven cuts, with obvious not-straight edges, or diamond cuts. It's as though they were amateurishly cut from an uncut sheet, with various sizes present and oftentimes measuring short or narrow or over-sized. We cannot measure and inspect every individual card; some may "pass", but we'd have to say buyer beware with this offering.
