Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Featuring a wide array of game-used materials from various items, one constant throughout this entire lot up on the auction block is the name of one man, the game’s greatest player, Wayne Gretzky. Offered here, is this collection of thirteen (13) 2000-01 Upper Deck releases including Game Used Stick, Game Gear, Team Foundations, Winning Materials, Game Used Jersey & Other memorabilia offerings. Out of the group, four (4) cards raise our eyebrows, including two that picture Gretzky in All-Star Game uniforms and include pieces of jersey from the celebrated midseason contest. Adding to one of the offerings further, Wayne is joined on the front by his boyhood idol, Gordie Howe, with a piece from one of his All-Star Game jerseys also having been embedded. An additional jersey card, with Wayne in a Rangers jersey on the front, has been hand serial numbered at the bottom “163/200” while the other, includes a piece of glove worn by Gretzky while with the Los Angeles Kings. The rest of the collection includes memorabilia cards showing “The Great One” as a Ranger and a King, sporting either pieces of stick or jersey used/worn by the NHL’s scoring king and in two cases, both items are present. The last two cards, non-memorabilia cards, hail from UD’s 2000-01 Legends release in the form of Team Foundations inserts picturing Wayne as an Oiler alongside Doug Weight and as a King with Luc Robitaille while being serial numbered on the back of each “357/375” and “073/375” respectively. All the cards remain in excellent condition, presenting with only light edge and corner wear consistently throughout.
