Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Originally scheduled to be held in 1979 but postponed, the 1981 Canada Cup was the second best-on-best hockey world championship featuring the globe's top six hockey nations. Team Canada - led by Wayne Gretzky, was humbled in the final by a powerful soviet squad that included MVP Vladislav Tretiak. The Great One led the tournament in scoring, with 12 points in 7 games. Originating from the collection of longtime Montreal Canadiens and Team Canada trainer Gaetan Lefebvre, we have a signed stick issued to Gretzky for the 1981 Canada Cup. A Titan 3010 TPM model with "W. Gretzky" stamped to the upper shaft, there is a "Mai 7 1981" date stamp to the lower shaft, with the striping accent intact. The blade has been signed by Wayne along with a personalization to Lefebvre, with the signature somewhat light. The stick itself remains in near mint condition aside from some yellow staining visible throughout the shaft. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
