Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2023
Despite finishing fourth during the 1948-49 regular season, the Toronto Maple Leafs slipped past the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup semifinals before defeating the first-place Detroit Red Wings in four straight games to capture the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup. This was the first time in history that any team won a trio of Stanley Cups consecutively. This especially rare CCM skates standee advertising display features a team photo of the 1948-49 Stanley Cup champion Leafs. At 17 1/2" x 22" at the widest points, the period CCM logo appears along the top with the Leafs full team photo centered, with additional league champions from the season listed along the base. The easel remains intact and unused on the reverse, with the display sporting some water damage to the lower section and reverse along with a bit of paper loss to the lower right corner, with this not affecting the overall display quality too harshly. This example is the ONLY specimen Classic Auctions has ever seen or handled.
