Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
One of the earliest American hockey equipment makers first established in Boston in the early 1870s, Wright & Ditson produced high quality sporting goods and is known especially for their golf and baseball equipment. Purchased by Spalding in 1891, the name was used continually until the company merged with Reach in the late-1910s to become Reach Wright & Ditson. The singular Wright & Ditson name continued use with goods produced in Canada. These two especially rare 1920s standee displays advertise the company's hockey equipment. Matching in size and design with just the background and player uniforms colours changing, each is approx 13 1/2" x 22 1/2" at the widest points, with a large puck pictured and a pair of generic players battling. "Howell Litho Hamilton" appears along the base of one along with "Lithographed in Canada", with each sporting the original unused easel on the reverse (one easel is missing a section). Each exhibits a bit of light dirt staining, but display beautifully. This is the first pair of these displays that Classic Auctions have ever offered.
