Taking part in four of the five Canada Cup tournaments occurring between 1976 and 1991, Wayne Gretzky would lead all scorers in each, and would be named the MVP at the 1987 event. Up for grabs here, is this “Canada Cup” style Team Canada pro on-ice jersey of Gretzky that has been signed by “The Great One” himself. An all red CCM made offering with both CCM and size “56” tags affixed to the inner collar, the front has been decorated with the classic Team Canada “Canada Cup” style logo heat screened over the front and sleeves in white while the distinguished captain’s “C” (Gretzky would captain the team in both 1987 and 1991) has been added over the left breast in single layer white tackle twill. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Wayne’s famed number “99” also in single layer white tackle twill, “Gretzky” has been spelt out across the top of the back in matching style over the affixed red tackle twill nameplate. Remaining in overall excellent condition with just some light cracking seen to the heat pressed logos, the jersey features pro style elements including a fight strap and reinforced elbows while Gretzky specific customizations are found in the form of dual embroidered CCM logos over the reverse and a Velcro swatch sewn into the inner reverse hem. Additionally, Wayne has signed the second reverse number “9” with a bold blue marker ink signature that displays well despite some minor bleeding. A Shawn Chaulk LOA will accompany the piece.
