Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Offered here, is this jersey signed and worn by Howe during the “Dave Lewis Fantasy Camp” game on August 23rd, 1996. Taking place at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, the city where he became “Mr. Hockey”, the “Dave Lewis Fantasy Camp” game, done to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, featured Howe playing one period for each team with this jersey the one he wore for “Team Purple” during the first period. Made by Athletic Knit, a “XXL” size tag is affixed to the inner collar while an “AK” brand logo is heat screened over the lower reverse hem. Styled over the front with the heat screened camp logo crest that has been sewn on, Howe’s iconic number “9” is heat screened over the reverse and each sleeve along with “Howe” across the top of the upper back. Remaining in excellent condition, Howe has signed the top of the reverse “9” with a black ink signature that shows some light smudging. A Make-A-Wish LOA signed by both Gordie and his wife Colleen will accompany the piece, as will a photo of Howe wearing the jersey and a program from the event.
