Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
The William Paterson firm’s second hockey card effort was released when the Montreal Canadiens were the reigning Stanley Cup champions, with legends Georges Vezina and Aurele Joliat leading the offered group of 21, their cards recently being assessed by PSA. At Good+ 2.5 with creasing only visible in the section below the image is the Vezina example, while that picturing a young Joliat is an attractive VG 3 specimen. The raw lineup is led condition-wise by nine cards at G or G+, including Hall of Famers 49-Sprague Cleghorn, 50-Sylvio Mantha and 58-Bert Corbeau, the others being 15-R. Green, 16-McKinnon RC, 24-Cook RC, 30-Fowler RC, 31-Stuart and 55-Reid RC. Rookie cards of 8-Campbell and 57-McCaffery, as well as 12-Randall are F, while 1-Joe Ironstone RC and 3-King Clancy (paper loss on the front) are amid seven P entries. Roughed-up and completing are 18-Roach and RCs of 22-Harris, 23-Headley, 29-Mitchell and 35-Cain. Also included and a swell bonus is a 1923-24 V145-1 rookie card of the Canadiens’ Billy Boucher (F). Intriguing pre-war relics to enhance your hockey card shrine merit consideration.
