Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

Described as “giant” on the wax pack display box were 1953-54 Parkhurst cards, with hockey icon and giant Jean Beliveau leading the 100-card issue, his desirable rookie card here recently receiving a VG 3 assessment at PSA headquarters. We rate it an attractive VG specimen, with no creases spotted and a ding to the top edge contributing to the final verdict. The raw lineup includes a vast majority of cards that exhibit evidence of once having been stored in a Parkie album, with curved indentations/lines usually observed on the upper back. Intermittent creases and toning/discoloration in some of the corner region and elsewhere, as well as corner/edge wear, are flaws that render most G to G+, including Worsley RC, Howe and Richard, with Harvey, Geoffrion and Sawchuk without indentations but still not making it to VG. We rate 13-Horton and 30-Lach & Richard, despite two light “lines,” at VG due to their superior-than-most corners and edges. A heavily-creased Andy Bathgate RC is also to note, but still, an overall decent lower grade stack accompanies Beliveau’s always-in-demand rookie card, the latter to be delivered in a new scratch-free PSA holder.
