Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023

After a season without hockey cards, kids and others must have been excited/smiling when they first saw Parkhurst packs in stores in 1957, with the Canadiens and Maple Leafs featured and Maurice Richard appearing on wax pack display boxes. The Rocket’s card is among the more attractive in the offered 50-card pieced-together assembly, dominated by creased VG and lesser examples. VG+ with small subtle light back creases is Maurice, while brother Henri’s desirable rookie card is F with multiple creases and a sizeable print defect. A crease-free Jean Beliveau entry has uneven toning on the front (otherwise VG-EX), while multi-creased and in the F to G realm are Frank Mahovlich RC and Habs Harvey, Geoffrion, Plante and Hodge RC, with Horton lowered to the same level but by paper loss (front top left corner), ink transfer and wax staining. Some of the first few numbered Leafs lead condition-wise; 4-Pulford RC and 5-Sloan make it to EX, with 2-Chadwick at VG-EX and 1-Armstrong among 11 VG cards. Other VG notables are Goyette and Provost RCs, Moore and Blake, with Baun RC and Pronovost RC among a half-dozen VG+ entries. Always intriguing and garnering interest are complete ’57-58 Parkie sets.
