Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Winter 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/28/2023
Topps hockey card action from the early-1960s is up for grabs here and we’ll lead with the (more appealing) batch from 1962-63, dominated by crease-free EX-or-better representatives and with mostly commons required for completion. The cards exhibit a curvature (top/bottom edges curving upwards), with “otherwise” grades and star power as follows: Chicago legends Hull (EX+), Mikita (EX-MT) and Hall (EX-MT) are joined by young Ranger stars Ratelle (VG+), Gilbert (EX-MT) and Hadfield RC (EX+), with obvious condition exceptions being 3-Gamble RC and 66-Checklist, both lowered by visible paper loss on the front, as well as 11-Bucyk (tape) and 22-Bruins Team (VG+). The only non-commons missing are 1-Watson and 2-Perreault RC. As for the ’60-61 contingent, it is hampered by warping; sometimes rubber band-looking indentations are actually not as only one edge is affected. Some cards, like 58-Hull (o/w EX), have more severe warping than others. The All-Time Greats subset is an appreciated aspect though, while stars not present are 7-Shack, 14-Mikita RC, 25-Hall and ATGs Malone, Stewart, Clapper, “Tiny” and Irvin. Multiple options are in store once you take possession of these blasts from the past.
