The rookie cards of three well-known coaches and five Hall of Fame players have always contributed to the popularity of O-Pee-Chee’s 1974-75 issue, for the first time a big 396-card effort. Including ten (10) slabbed examples from the various grading companies, a trio of PSA graded offerings are included with 155-Dryden leading the way at NM-MT 8 while being accompanied by NM 7 examples of 135-Clarke All-Star and 316-Shutt (RC). A BVG slab housing card #201 of Rod Gilbert is the only one included that was inspected by the company, with the graders giving it a near perfect grade of 9.5 GEM MINT while six (6) KSA holders make up the rest of the included graded cards, led by card #261, the rookie of Scotty Bowman, garnering a NMM+ 8.5. Other KSA specimens include NMM examples of Lanny McDonalds rookie card as well as Bobby Orr’s regular and all-star card, numbers 100 and 130 in the set respectively, with the group rounded out by a NM+ 7.5 of Don Cherry’s rookie and a NM 7 of Denis Potvin’s first year offering. The rest of the set, presenting to us raw, falls consistently in the EX-MT condition range in our opinion, including the rookie cards of Borje Salming and Bob Gainey. Star cards are in the same condition vicinity including those of #280 Robinson, #40 Sittler, #72 Dionne, #200 P. Esposito and #232 Lafleur. All three checklists remain unmarked with all three falling in the scope of EX-MT/NM condition, especially #311. A wonderful offering, a nice trip down memory lane awaits our lucky winning bidder.
*Please note that the grading standards followed by KSA may not correspond to those of PSA, BGS or SGC. The outcome of an attempted cross-over of this card through any of those services therefore would be uncertain and cannot be guaranteed.
