Three beauty sets from the early-1980’s, offered up are these classic O-Pee-Chee sets chalked full of rookie/HOF/star cards of the era which for the most part are in nice uniform condition throughout.
The 1981-82 set, consisting of 396 cards, features key rookie cards of #63 Denis Savard (off-centered), #108 Glenn Anderson, #111 Paul Coffey (off-centered/gum stain), #120 Andy Moog (off-centered), #161 Dino Ciccarelli and #269 Peter Stastny with all but Coffey falling in the vicinity of EX-MT to NM due to the gum stain on the front. Always popular cards of Wayne Gretzky include #106 in a lovely EX-MT to MT condition range and is joined by others in similar condition featuring “The Great One” including #s 125, 126, 383, 384 and 392. Card #1 of defensive standout Ray Bourque is off-centered top to bottom with rough edges on the reverse and presents in the vicinity of EX-MT or so. The three checklists remain unmarked with all three off-centered and in the range of EX-MT condition. The set generally reflects the condition of the cards above and is in the EX-MT to NM range and in pretty uniform condition throughout.
The 1982-83 set is highlighted by the rookie cards of #105 Grant Fuhr, #123 Ron Francis and #380 Dale Hawerchuk with the Fuhr in the scope of EX-MT to NM and both Francis and Hawerchuk in the vicinity of EX+ due to a small wrinkle at the top left border and top right corner respectively. As is usual with sets of the era, a large number of Gretzky offering are found including card #1 (EX-EX+ with light wear to the top corners) and #106 near EX-MT to MT but slightly off-centered. Cards of HOFers #7 Ray Bourque and #117 Mark Messier fall in the same EX-MT to NM range as many of the other cards while the three checklists, #121 (VG-EX/EX, off-centered, light crease at the top), #261 (EX/EX-MT) and #396 (VG/VG-EX with slight creasing) remain unmarked. The set is consistently in the EX-MT range with some registering towards EX-MT to NM and in pretty uniform condition throughout. Of note, card #243 of Gretzky does have a gum stain over the front and registers in EX range because of it.
The last of the three sets offered, O-Pee-Chee’s 1983-84 class is led by rookie offerings of #268 Pelle Lindbergh (EX+ to EX-MT) and #376 Scott Stevens (EX+ to EX-MT). The usual Gretzky grouping is included with #29 (EX-MT to NM) followed by eight others in similar condition of EX-MT to NM for all. Wayne’s Oilers teammates #25 Paul Coffey and #39 Mark Messier also remain in EX-MT to NM condition with good centering as does #45 Ray Bourque and #385 Dale Hawerchuk. The three checklists remain unmarked and as the other two sets, the set generally reflects the condition of the cards above and is in the EX-MT to NM range and in pretty uniform condition throughout.
