Always a hobby favourite and featuring a groovy array of colours as well as a strong group of National Hockey League star power, up on the block this time is a near complete assembly of Topps’ fabled 1971-72 release. Ringing in with 123 of the 132 cards in the checklist accounted for, the key rookie card of Canadiens goalie Ken Dryden is present and is displays in the range of EX condition, largely in part to a large gum stain on the reverse. Key cards of 50-Hull, 70-Howe and 100-Orr are all found to be in the vicinity of EX-MT condition while those in low-to-mid range grades include 10-Plante (VG-EX – light fading on the back and surface blemish on the front), 110-T. Esposito (EX – off-center with light surface wear), and 114-Clarke (VG-EX to EX – off-center and light gum stain on the back). The checklist card, #111, remains unmarked and in the scope of EX to EX-MT condition. Missing cards include #’s 31, 40 (Park RC), 57, 84, 101, 120, 124, 128 and 132 while cards that are in either a low-grade condition or have a large gum stain include #’s 20 (P. Esposito), 86, 95, 96 and 102.
