Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
An intriguing grouping of Canadiana is up for your consideration here via this lot of 1926 Dominion Chocolate Athletic Stars cards that totals thirty-six (36) and includes eleven (11) hockey players. Picturing prominent Canadian athletes on little cards issued with Dominion Chocolate chocolate bars in the mid-1920s, hobby veteran Bobby Burrell after extensive research, has concluded that these scarcities should be designated as a 1928-29 issue and not 1925-26 as previously archived. All possessing their tab coupon at the bottom of each the hockey issues include the likes of Alex Gray (x3), Duncan Munro, Gerald Green, Ernie Williams (x2), Douglas Young, Ken Doraty (x2) and George Clark with all in the lower grade ranges of PR to FR or FR to G due to most showing multiple creases as well as stains, corner wear, edge wear and residue stuck on some. For the rest of the cards, totalling twenty-six (26), examples of John Fitzpatrick and Edward Butler are viewed as being in “Authentic” condition due to tears, reverse damage and being taped back together while examples in the range of FR include the likes of Gladys Robinson, Cecil Smith, Joe Wright, Leila Brooks Potter, Fred Macbeth, Robert Mitchell, Bert Pearson, Percy Williams (x2), Jack Fraser, Ray G Lewis, Victor Pickard, Robert Welch, A Zvonkin, W. J. Montgomery, Winnipeg Eight and P. Suttie. With the rest of the cards, including examples of Leila Brooks Potter, Ray G Lewis, George Young, George Peterson, Phil Edwards, David Griffin and Vic Foley, all in the range of FR to G or a bit better, the group makes up a pleasing collection of desirable pre-war specimens for you to consider.
